One hopeless night, the mentee found herself in front of her mentor’s home. There she saw him lying in the lawn silently gazing over the starry heaven. The mentor rose from his position and sat. Then, the mentee did so beside him.
“How long till you found out what you are passionate about?” The Mentee prodded.
“After I surrendered all the clutter of things that I do aside from what I love doing the most.”
“I really don’t know what to do with my life,” she continued.
“Look deeper and feel your core,” the Mentor responded.
“Over the years, I have learned to discern what’s mundane and what’s necessary based on my core values. Then, started giving up those that destruct me, despite for others, they are worth having. I found out later on, that there is more to giving up, so you may be able to pick up new ones,” the Mentor explained.
Feeling exasperated, the Mentee confessed, “You know, I just wanna let go of everything, but responsibilities tie me down! What should I do?” She was about to cry.
“Hey, have you lost your focus? What happened to your core values? Why are you mocking yourself down? Remember, in times of confusion, just look deeper and be at peace with your core. There is no easy way to success. That’s where your exasperation coming from. While you are gripping tightly to chase your personal ambition, you unconsciously let go of your what’s essential for life. Walk first before you run, but not too fast that you will trip-down. Take life lightly, gradually, stride with time. Life is beautiful, but have you seen its beauty lately?”
With a deep sigh, the Mentee spoke, “well, I have to look really deep. I envy people who got their life figured out! Just like you.”
This time, the Mentor, held her hands and looked at her eyes.
“In due time, you’ll see the diurnal realities of life – why there’s heaven and earth, there’s day and night, there’s life and death, there’s holding on and giving up. Life is a constant battle and not every day is a celebration of feat. Defeats make us strive harder, problems make us stronger, and failures invite us to reflect deeper. It’s all a matter of perspectives.”
Feeling relieved, the Mentee thanked her Mentor and left with a lighter heart.
When you feel confused and alone in your journey, just pause and look deeper in to your core. It will lead you to where you want to be.
